Mua Cave - The Muse of Ninh Binh

Known as the "Great Wall of Vietnam,"  Mua Cave offers the most breathtaking panoramic view of Ninh Binh. With nearly 500 stone steps leading to the summit, it is a masterpiece of nature and ancient architecture, where you can feel the clouds beneath your feet and watch the majestic landscape of Tam Coc unfold below.

1. Location & Geography
  • Location: Situated in Ninh Xuan Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh. It lies within the core zone of the Trang An World Heritage Site, about 4km from Tam Coc and 6km from Trang An.
  • Landscape: While "Hang Mua" means "Mua Cave" (a small cave at the foot of the mountain), the main attraction is the limestone peak featuring intricate stone architecture mimicking the Great Wall, leading to the Ngoa Long (Lying Dragon) Mountain.
  • Highlights: This is undeniably the best viewpoint in Ninh Binh. From the top, you can capture the entire Ngo Dong River and the emerald rice paddies of Tam Coc in a single frame.

2. Culture & Activities
  • History: Legend has it that King Tran used to visit this place to watch graceful dances performed by imperial maids, hence the name "Hang Mua" (Dancing Cave - Mua Cave). The summit is adorned with a majestic Dragon statue and a Goddess of Mercy (Quan Am) statue looking over the ancient land.
Signature Activities:
  • Trekking: Challenge yourself with 486 stone steps to reach the "Dragon’s Back" at the summit.
